Hiking hard and going fast!
Race 7 Wind 10-12 Boat 5
We arived on the race course to a mill pond. After a long delay, 12 knots of wind came in from the direction of the Golden Gate and racing was on. We started about one third of the way down the line. We favored the right, but could see that the left was paying for the boats on that side. Rounded sixth - we were unable to pass going upwind or down, and finished pretty much where we started.
Race 8 Wind 12-15 Boat 11
Started one length from the pin. Held left for about half the leg, then worked up the middle. Leading most of the fleet, and rounded second. Sailed a bit hotter than we had been in prior races, and held on to second to the leeward mark. Rounded the south gate and went back up on the left side. Rounded the weather mark in second, but Toole got by us on the run so we took third.
Race 9 Wind 15-20 Boat 9
Started mid-line. Tacked over to port after about a minute, to go right. Stayed on port almost to the starboard layline. Tacked over and could see that we were ahead of almost everyone. It was close at the weather mark with Klienshrodt, but we played it conservatively and rounded just behind him in second. Klatt rounded right behind us. More wind on the south now, so we stayed south, trying to sail hotter and physically stay in front of the pack just behind us. We rounded the south gate, but Klatt went to the north gate. We tacked over to port and sailed to weather and behind Klatt, avoiding his bad air. Klatt tacked back to starboard about half way to the layline, letting us go. We continued on. He came back at us, so we tacked to converge and consolidate. When we met, we were on starboard and leebowed him, bouncing him back left. We went back right for a few minutes, and then we came back at Klatt and now Klienshrodt as well. We crossed them both by four or five lenghts, and then tacked about ten lengths to weather of them and covered them to the starboard layline and to the upwind finish. A bullet for us - finally! A great way to end the day.
